Paula Morgado, R.Ac
I am a registered/licensed acupuncturist with the CTCMPAO - College of Traditional Chinese Medicine Practitioners and Acupuncturists of Ontario, and educated at the Toronto School of Traditional Chinese Medicine.
Traditional Chinese Medicine is often thought of just as acupuncture, but in reality it includes a number of different modalities, including cupping, tuina massage, guasha, moxa, electro therapy, auricular acupuncture, and Chinese herbs.
I also obtained specialized certification in cosmetic acupuncture facial rejuvenation, including aromatherapy & flower essences with training by Virginia Doran, a renowned US and worldwide expert in the field.
Further, I have also taught TCM acupuncture at Georgian College.
In addition to the training in Chinese medicine modalities, I hold a University Combined Honours Degree from York University in Psychology and Sociology. I worked in the social services counselling families for several years and later joined the business world where I steadily progressed through the corporate ladder, but always felt that something was missing and decided to completely dedicate myself to my passion.
My own experiences with chronic pain, thyroid imbalances and the ineffectiveness of western medicine to address my conditions in a healthy, non-medicated manner first lead me to seek alternative acupuncture treatments. I have to admit that my initial experience with a western medical Physician trained in ‘anatomical’ acupuncture was not wholly successful. I later found a practitioner that not only practiced acupuncture but applied Chinese medical principles to treatments and almost immediately felt pain relief that I hadn’t felt in years. Not only was my pain relieved but my overall well-being was enhanced as my unique underlying imbalance was addressed. My chronic pain is now managed without narcotic medications, and my thyroid function has remained in a balanced state for over 4 years without the need for daily synthetic hormone supplements.
In Traditional Chinese Medicine the body is seen as a delicate balance of two opposing, but inseparable forces: yin and yang. Yin represents the cold, slow, or passive principle, while yang represents the hot, excited, or active principle. Health is a result of maintaining the body in a "balanced state", and disease is due to an internal imbalance of yin and yang. This imbalance leads to blockage in the flow of qi (vital energy), blood and body fluid along pathways known as meridians or channels that run throughout the body.
By the time a condition physically manifests, an underlying predisposing yin/yang imbalance has existed for some time. I thought I was relatively healthy and managing my life stress until I discovered that I had succumb to a thyroid disorder. Now that I have successfully addressed my thyroid condition, I continue to periodically receive treatments for maintenance of the investment made to my overall health and wellness.
I so deeply believe in the power of Traditional Chinese Medicine and acupuncture that I decided to make it my mission to empower others about the body’s innate capacity to heal itself, and inspire others about the natural path to life, health and beauty. My goal is to enable the body’s self-healing abilities through providing traditional Chinese medical modality and acupuncture treatments with compassionate and understanding therapeutic intention, and the highest quality, results-focused healing care.
I look forward to establishing our partnership and facilitating you on your healing pathway in the near future.
